A Reasonable Explanation, part 2

Caitlyn stood in the doorway of the den waiting for Thomas to respond. “Uh, sure” he said, slightly taken aback. He picked up the remote and muted the TV. “Whats up?” he asked looking at her. She clearly wasn’t happy, arms folded squarely across her chest and a stern expression on her face.  Read more »

A Reasonable Explanation, part 1

Caitlyn was a hard working business professional, wife, and mother of two children. They were an untraditional family in that Caitlyn was the one with the career, while her husband Thomas stayed home with the children. Caitlyn worked 9-10 hours a day, and while she was seeing less and less of her family, certainly less than she preferred, Thomas was very supportive of her. He got the kids breakfast, packed their lunches, and sent them to school every day. He did chores around the house and had dinner waiting for her when she got home in the evenings. They had a routine, and everything was comfortable for them. Or, at least that was the impression Caitlyn got. Read more »

The Neighbor

The Neighbor

In a perfect world, there would be no need for surveillance cameras to watch over our homes or businesses.Sadly, there are people in this world who choose not to respect your property or privacy. Life can become especially difficult when such a person is your next door neighbor.

I recently came into contact with an individual, whom we shall call “Max” who was concerned about his family’s safety and the security of his property due to the fact that he was becoming increasingly harassed by his neighbor. The neighbor had made threats to this individual, even saying he would bury his entire family in his back yard one day. At first Max didn’t take the threats seriously; however, strange things started to happen. He and his family came home from church one afternoon to find their front door had a red X spray painted across it. A few days later their children’s swing set was completely disassembled and left in a pile. It smelled like vinegar had been poured over it. The last straw for Max came when he had friends and family over for a BBQ. Max went to go start the grill and when he opened it up he found that manure had been dumped inside. Had Max ignited the grill without opening the lid, it is possible it could have exploded.  Read more »

Squeeze, part 4

Squeeze, part 4

Sandra rushed home after calling the police, wanting to meet them there. When she arrived there were two squad cars parked outside her house, but no sign of the pick up truck she had seen on her cameras. She parked out front and hurried up to a couple of officers that were talking outside her door.  Read more »

Squeeze, part 2

Squeeze, part 2

The police had come and gone from Sandra’s home. They took down her statement, looked around the house, both inside and out, but there wasn’t anything that could really be done. The police had confirmed that there were no signs of forced entry; however with nothing else to do for Sandra, the police suggested that she look into a surveillance system, as video footage could have gone a long way towards helping them catch the thief that had stolen her vase of coins. Sandra had estimated it to have been at least a couple hundred dollars in that vase that was now gone.

Later that night she put some thought into what a camera system could do for her home, even going so far as to look up a couple places on the internet who specialized in home surveillance systems. Unfortunately most of the systems were priced outside what she was willing to pay for a couple of cameras. Resolute that this was a one time problem, and it wouldn’t be worth spending money on something that was unlikely to happen again, she decided against going forward with a camera system.
The next couple of weeks that went by bolstered Sandra’s confidence that she need not worry about being robbed again. There had be nothing else taken form her house in that period, nor were there any signs that someone had come in to the house while she worked. She had even replaced her coin vase and had started a new collection, determined to save up for a trip to visit Europe like her sister.
Sandra came home from work one evening, stepped into her house from the garage and saw it immediately, or rather, it was what she didn’t see that got her attention. Her TV was gone. She dropped her purse onto the floor as she stepped in. It wasn’t just her TV. Her stereo and speakers were gone too. Bewildered, she checked the doors. Both front and back were locked. The windows all closed, and still no sign of forced entry. Sandra felt sick to her stomach. Once again she called the police, but she already knew they wouldn’t be able to help. She needed to buy a surveillance system to watch her house. There was no way around it now.Quequeg came running in from her doggy door. Sandra collapsed on the floor, and pulled her dog into her arms and cried.
Log on Friday afternoon to find out how Sandra was being robbed, and if the burglars were caught.
